The purpose built InterContinental Foshan aims to provide a luxury hotel both for its home city and nearby Guangzhou, a dynamic hub that has seen exponential growth in the past decade. The lobby lounge includes a dramatic stained glass atrium dome depicting an abstracted landscape; its amber, rust and blue tones are reiterated in backlit glass screens on a feature wall. Screens play an important role throughout the hotel both as a decorative feature and to reinforce moods. Guestrooms seem larger with transparent screens, while silver discs in the club lounge are reinterpreted as a mirror frame in guest bathrooms. The Chinese restaurant Canal Luna welcomes visitors with a series of reclaimed timber screens salvaged from old Cantonese homes. A romantic atmosphere of mid-20th century Cuba was created for Brazilian Ole Ole restaurant and Havana-inspired Ole Ole bar. Behind the bar are historic scenes of Havana on backlit glass; together with charming chandeliers and sconces, a distinctly Latin feel forms the ideal background to sultry tunes, freshly muddled Mojitos and fine Cuban cigars. Chairs in the restaurant are clad in jewel tones of textured old world-inspired upholstery upon contemporary wooden frames.
